Google announced Gemini 4 Argon on September 30 as the flagship of its Gemini 4 generation. The company is beginning with a limited rollout to trusted cybersecurity defenders through its Fairwind Program rather than a broad public release.

A frontier launch with gated access

Google describes Argon as a model for long-horizon software engineering, knowledge work and defensive cybersecurity. Its announcement specifies a one-million-token output limit and planned introductory API rates of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. Broad paid API and consumer access is still forthcoming.

Benchmarks are claims, not independent proof

Reuters independently confirmed the launch, the limited cybersecurity rollout, and the absence of a public-release timetable. It also noted that Google's self-reported results did not lead every disclosed coding benchmark. Broad reliability and relative frontier performance therefore remain unverified outside Google's testing.
