OpenAI announced the Rosalind Academic Plan on October 15, offering qualifying U.S. university research labs up to 30 complimentary ChatGPT Business Standard seats for as long as 12 months.

Participating labs may request GPT-Rosalind access, subject to trusted-access review. The program excludes API access and API credits. The seats are time-limited, and labs must satisfy eligibility and approval requirements.

The offer may reduce purchasing friction for some research teams that want a shared workspace and specialist tools. It is targeted to U.S. academic labs; the announcement does not establish research outcomes or extend the program to non-academic organizations.

This is an access program, not a new model launch. The 30-seat figure is a ceiling, not an automatic grant, and the plan is not a permanent free tier.
