Meta announced support for research programs at Caltech, Ohio State University, Louisiana State University, Indiana University and UTHealth Houston. The package combines $2 million in grants with access to Meta models, wearable technologies and direct collaboration with company researchers.

The projects span clinical and fundamental science. Examples include monitoring tracheostomy-tube displacement in infants, assessing heart-failure risk, communication tools for people with dementia and work in physics, chemistry, biology, computer science and mathematics.

Researchers may use Muse Spark Open, Muse Wonder, Muse Glimmer and other Meta systems including Segment Anything, V-JEPA, DINO and SeamlessM4T. The program therefore covers both frontier and open-weight models rather than a single research platform.

Meta says the universities designed their own studies and will run healthcare models inside institutional environments. It also says patient and clinical data will remain under university control and will not be shared with or processed by Meta.

The announcement funds research rather than proving outcomes. The medical systems are not described as cleared clinical products, and the broader scientific projects have not yet produced independently reviewed results. The significance is the breadth of model access and direct support across five institutions.
